Even though I was a lone soldier when it came to this desire....Even though my family turned against me, including my 2 Canadian born brothers....Even though my die hard hockey fan bro-in-law cursed my choice...I was going for Team Canada when it came to the big hockey match that they were playing against Team USA for the gold medal.
Sorry but Canada+Religion+Life+Everything Else Imaginable=HOCKEY!!!
Now I had someone dispute this statement but when it comes to sports, Canada only really has the love of Hockey. Growing up, you didn't go to Baseball, Basketball, or Football games to watch your crushes play...you went to the rink to watch them play their Hockey matches. Seriously.
Yesterday one of the newscasters said it perfectly.
"USA wanted to win the gold medal, but Canada needed to win the gold medal to maintain their dignity, their Hockey pride and heritage, and especially doing so on their own soil."
Very true.
There is something to be said about the sense of pride that Canadians have in the things that they feel are "theirs", no matter what thing that may be. That does not mean that Americans do not have the same feelings but there are things that I feel and know are significantly different, at least where I lived.
Anyway, not that I even knew any of the players on either team but I did remember that there are three 20 minute periods in a game. I remembered what a power play was, and I did remember how to win when it goes to overtime aaaand who taught me those things?
Yes. My fellow Canadians (and yes. i am only 50/50 but still.....) and with that being said.......
GO TEAM CANADA...THE GOLD MEDAL WINNERS!!!!!!
