Carter James Corbridge...YOU'RE 11!!!! How Did That Happen?!?

i know. i can't believe it. my "bubby" ie. carter is 11! i am in complete denial. i'm not that old! not old enough to have an 11yr old!?! how can i be that old?!? i don't feel that old. i mean my "soul" does not feel that old and i know for a fact that i don't act that old! (i wonder if my own mom felt this same way on our birthdays growing up? hmmmm?)
anyway, i can't remember if i've said exactly what happened when carter was born. his birth was not nearly as drama filled as kindra's, but it still was not "simple". something about me and a "delivery date" just does not go.....

the weekend before he was born, we had been down at lake mead and las vegas for the supercross race. i began to get extremely bloated but thought that it was because of the heat. we got home and i went to bed with the worst headache ever. again i thought that it had been caused from the stress of travel but it was still around when i woke up. luckily that afternoon, i had a doctors apt so i remember waking up, getting in the shower, pulling my wet hair back, putting comfy clothes on, and headed up to slc to the doctor.

as soon as they got me checked in and checked my blood pressure, they knew that something was not right. they took it again while also checking the protein in my urine, which was also high, hence the horrible headache. they hurried me in to a room and the doctor immediately came in and said "well, it looks like your son wants to come early. you need to go right up to lds hospital and check in because we're going to have to do an emergency c section". yeah. i freaked out. my due date was not for 2 months, i didn't have an overnight bag, i didn't look cute for those perfect delivery pics lol, and i didn't even have my husband with me. yeah. freaking out. i ran right out, called and picked up trevor, and headed up to the hospital. i specifically remember saying "i'm not ready for this. i'm not ready to have this baby" but it did no good. the nurses did everything possible to see if i could wait as long as my body could without having to deliver carter but that too did not work. the next afternoon, my emergency c section was scheduled. the main nurse, who ended up being my favorite, was getting so annoyed because there were so many friends and family there to see me and it was causing my blood pressure to sky rocket. lol. "c section party in terry's room" thomas kept saying.

the minute the anesthesiologist came in to give me the epidural, i began bawling. i was so scared. i knew that it was going to be death pain. i guess the bloating fatness helped cause it did not hurt at all. phew....but i was still scared to death. the next thing i remember was being woken up when someone turned on the lights in my room. all i wanted to do was sleep so i was a little bitchy i'm afraid. lol shocking huh?!? i was so surprised that it was over. it seemed like only seconds. a few minutes later they brought in carter who was to remain nameless for a few weeks. i wanted hayden or daxton and trevor wanted conner but none of those names fit.

carter was perfect. i thought he was perfect. he had a perfectly rounded head. his nose was a perfect "sainsbury" nose. he was so petite and he looked like a little man. all i could do was giggle with excitement.

i went home and it was like a miracle cure. it's like the bloated water gain fat literally melted away and i was my "normal" body self again. i was so freaking happy and ready to handle the commute back and forth to the hospital that would last for exactly one month. between the 3rd and 4th week, every time i left the hospital, i cried like a baby. i wanted him home so bad and it was like leaving half of me at the nicu every time. i did not feel whole without him.

finally on june 24, 2001, carter came home. best. day. ever.

and for funny....here's a few flashback pics :)

now, you know how serious I am when it comes to my movie going? so of course I had to install those same emotions into my son so this is a picture of his first movie ever!
and these are a few of my favorite pics. ones that have a significant memory that i'll NEVER forget....

how ironic is it that exactly 7 days after this picture was taken, our little family would never be the same? ie...my car accident! :( but how awesome was it to find out that we were going to be adding another baby to the family, kindra?! our ignorant bubble would soon be popped allowing us to exist in a completely different life that would teach us so many things. one that would allow us great opportunities and experiences?! there's a time and a place for everything and this was definitely our time. and for the record, it can always be worse ;)

so fast forward eleven years. birthdays are always great to reflect on the events or milestones that you and your children have experienced together. it really makes you appreciate and realize just how far you've come. i love my son...of course i love my son and i could not imagine life without him. he is my "jobber" and my "helper of america". he loves "projects" like his mom does and he'll always be game to take on a new one! i love our nightly routine of saying "i love you...don't let the bed bugs bite", his silly questions that he asks at night, and the muffled "i love you" that he declares from underneath his blankets.

"oh carter, my little bubby. i love you so much!"

i'll admit that the romans had a point.
you've got to live life.
and living means that every morning, when you wake up, you have to choose between seizing what life offers in the moment and forging ahead, no matter the weather, or closing the curtains and shutting out the day.
you choose.
but no regret or looking back.
because either way, tomorrow is a brand. new. day.
with brand. new. choices.

"What A Jackass"

before i share with you my newest comedy of confrontations, let's remember THIS and THIS
yes. these incidences still make me laugh so hard. they were classic nights that's for sure :)

and they just continue to get even better...

i approached the usual 2 handicap parking stalls as i pulled in to a local business. there i found the usual. parking spot. lined off section in the middle. parking spot. left parking spot was unoccupied. right parking spot was also unoccupied. since i open up my door wide to get my chair out and put together, i always park in the right spots. but this time was different. some minivan was parked in the lined off section between the spots. huh? why would they do that when there were 2 open spots WHERE they SHOULD park. why were they in the ONLY spot that they SHOULD NOT be?! clearly i was annoyed since they had selfishly taken up 2 spots for no absolute reason.

so of course unfortunately like many times before, i had to park clear out in "timbuktu". don't get me wrong, i'm ok with doing that when  there are already those who are parking legitimately in the handi spots. anyway, so out i went. but don't you worry, i had a note in hand. one of my infamous politely calling outs, pointing out where they were wrong, asking why it was that they felt that they were above the law, hoping and asking them to think unselfishly the next time they pulled a stunt like this. i wasn't rude. i was honest and expressed my frustration in a way that pointed out some validity. i stuck it on their windshield and into the store i went.

20 minutes later i came out only to see that the owners of the minivan were simultaneously taking off and reading the letter that i had left them. i smirked a bit to myself and thought nothing more of it. that was until i heard what the driver of the minivan said. (for the record. they were not those using a wheelchair. grrrrrr)

and what was it that i heard her say? she laughed and said "oh whatever. what a jackass." and that's when i stopped. i immediately went around to where she was and commented back with a "well, then i guess that I AM THE JACKASS. and quite honestly, i'm disgusted by your reaction to my note. instead of understanding my concerns and my frustrations, you still continue to think you're better than the rest and am entitled to whatever you want?! and you call ME a jackass?! wow. i would beg to differ. in fact, you clearly are the selfish jackass. i'm just trying to educate and to give you a different perspective. one of a true needer's. one that may not be able to improvise as easily as we can. that's all my point was in leaving you the note. but whatever. i tried. and if you feel OK about continuing down this road, then so be it."

and with that i shook my head in disgust and left.

so i guess, call it what it is or what i am. i'm an educating, ignorance ending, complete jackass. and ya know? i'm OK with that. in fact, i'm actually proud to be one and i'll take that award ANY DAY :)

The Worst Start To A New Year. :(

my new tattoo, er my new branding. when i tried to avoid the hit, my arm was obviously on the wheel, and the airbag went off, exploding the acura logo right onto my arm. so yes. i guess it's a sign that i will always have to drive an acura. and fine, i can handle that ;)

the 2 casualties...my arm and kindra's scratch. she hit her head, receiving it :(

at least the day ended well with another one of utah's gorgeous sunsets...

Happy New Years...

ringing in the new year with a family game night...
by far, the best body maneuvers are done while playing the wii or the playstation. case in point...check out these pics. lol. growing up, with "gameboys", our parents we laugh at our facial expressions and then with the nintendo, the arm actions, the jumping, and the tongue comedy were all too classic. anyway, my kids have also been handed down the trait :)
and of course we had to carry on the banging of the pot and pan tradition. ready. set. GO!

...until next year :)
