My Halloween Obsession!!!

The St George Marathon 2009

It's official! It's been exactly 1 year of my hand-cycling career. I can't believe how fast that it has gone by! The St George Marathon was here once again...
I knew that Thomas would be there beside me again this year but I was so surprised when my parents told me that they were going to come down also. Then my brother Jake told me that his family was going to also come down! I was so excited! My kids were coming down with me this time so it was going to be one big family reunion in St George. Wahoooooo!!!

The weather was NOTHING like it had been the year before but it was still freezing at 5am. And YES! Notice the winter apparel that everyone else is wearing??? Hey. I'm still learning and at least this year I brought gloves down!

Last year I had no idea what to expect when it came to my finish time. I did 26.2 in 2 hrs 22 min and I was so happy since that had been my first ever marathon. This year after some further training...some (Thomas I know you are laughing right now!) I wanted to finish close to 2 hrs even. Well. I DID IT IN 1 hr 47 min AND I WAS FREAKING OUT!!! How had I just shaved 35 minutes off of my time???

Kindra had the best line of the morning! She was standing beside Thomas at the finish line and busted out with another one of her classic comments. "You're KILLING it, Mom. You are KILLING it!!!" When I asked her where she had come up with that one she said "Duh Mom. Phineas and Ferb!?!" which is her favorite Disney cartoon. Way too funny!

There is something that you mentally experience when you are participating in a marathon. Something that is impossible for those who have never done one to understand what you are talking about. Although I had my iPod blaring, I was able to think about alot of things that are going on in my life right now. Things that I want to change. Reasons why things are the way they are. Issues with my family. Things that I love. The weather was perfect. A little finger numbing in the beginning but the sunrise was a mental picture that will be forever in my mind! I was so excited to know that my family and friends would be at the finish line to cheer me on!

The Mess

well at least this part of the weekend was gorgeous. it never rained down in the valley but it sure did leave us with some great rainbows....
now is where the fun begins. i was upstairs. the kids were downstairs obviously working up one of their fantastic ideas....grrrrrrr!

yeah. surprise! they wanted to surprise me with the part of the cement that they had painted and the board? yeah well that was just one of carter's ideas. oh man. did i freak. FREAK! kids are so funny. they just don't see the bigger picture...the aftermath....all they see is what they are doing at that exact moment....what their reason is for their actions. like life i guess. we never see the bigger picture. and that can screw us over at times, huh? and then we learn. hmmmm? so let's just hope that my 2 learned something today too!?!

xoxo mingrats....
