apologizing: does not always mean you are wrong and the other person is right.

it just means that you value your relationship more than your ego.

I Almost Forgot...

i didn't want to jinx myself or be disappointed with how i did so i didn't "give" myself any type of expectation for how i'd do in "the boston marathon".

but i WILL say that i did MUCH BETTER than i thought i'd do (both with my finish time and placement)! and yes! i DID NOT FINISH LAST and yes! i'll take ANOTHER 2nd place finish aaaaany day. and yes! fine. i'll admit it. my finish time goal was to do it under 2hrs and i did!!! woot...woot!!!

The Boston Marathon...

and we're off for boston...!
it was official. i was #27202! we got into boston and went right to the expo center to pick up my #, the race start information, and the "must have purchase" of a "i was HERE" t-shirt. ;)
i've known for months that i would be "running" the boston but it never had really sunk in until i got to the expo and had my #. this is when i became REALLY nervous. the "fear of the unknown" consumed my mind. i luckily found the means to bring the kids along for the fun but after a few normal parenting bumps, i did question my reasons for bringing them along. horrible? i know it sounds so but it was just because i had "something" on my mind. i didn't want to deal with parent reality, i only wanted to deal with kt's selfish bubble of reality...the race. after it was over, it was no big deal but before i was a bit stressed out. just being honest but come on, in my defense, it's not like i "do" the boston every year!?! ;)
after we left the expo center, we headed over to "fenway park" to see a "boston red sox" game. there's NO WAY that we could not do that!? can i tell you that we DID NOT pack warm enough and it was FREEZING!!! we had awesome seats and the crowd made the game so fun. they get SO into it. plus, they were playing the "toronto bluejays" which made me feel right at home. instead of basketball or football, toronto had baseball and that's what we'd go and do as a family. very fun...then. (but not so much now. sooooorry. baseball is just tooooo slow for me!?! hahaha)

i love this picture of carter...

check out the ball....HOMERUN!!!

kindra was trying to talk me into peanuts. this was her way of begging?! lol....

the next morning we were off to concord to fill our minds with some more history...
louisa may alcotts home and where she wrote "little women"...

maybe this sounds morbid but one of my favorite things to do when i lived in VA, was to find old hidden cemetaries and take pictures of the grave stones. there is just something so historic and calming about an ancient cemetary...

then we headed over to salem, as in the "salem witch hunts. yeah. can you say dismal, depressing, dreary, creepy. no wonder these "witchs" turned all witchy or made up creative rumors. what else would you do in this harbor town that was pure blah!?
kindra and i were the only ones who wanted to go in to this museum. they boys were NOT interested...

this was hampton beach or can you say another "jersey shore"!? no. i am serious. all too funny. the waves were awesome though. i was amazed at how HUGE they were....

harvard...

they're getting ready...!!!

the kids thought it was so funny that on EVERY corner was a "dunkin donuts".

i have said over and over that i DON'T CHECK OUT the course before a race. guarantee i will psyche myself out. i just like to be "in the moment" and will figure it out. did i listen to my gut? no. of course not. the "heart break hill" was calling my name and i had to see if i was indeed going to die. and yes, the panic and the reality of this hill set in and i began to freak out. if you LOOK AT THE COURSE, you'll see that the worst hills are towards the end. when you are already exhausted, that's when they sucker punch you. no really...
our hotel was about 20 minutes outside of downtown boston. i was not about to make the fam haul me into town with no where to go so i just took a cab in. yes. yes i did. waaaay too funny. it's amazing the things that you can learn about a complete stranger in 20 minutes and then how thankful you are to arrive to your destination alive. (nice guy though but you better believe 911 was already pre-dialed on my cell...)
i met emily a few years ago at the st.george marathon and randomly she had also gotten in this year. she participates in a "wheeler" or "rim chair" so we were not in the same division...
"tranont" was our big sponsor this year. zac zimmerman is from lehi and also attended LHS. (worst story ever. a few weeks before the race i was in a meeting with "tranont" and zac came in the room. i was a senior and he was a soph? anyway, we had a class together and i DO NOT remember him. you know that you're screwed when you introduce yourself and they say back..."oh i know who you are. you're katie terry. we had a class together but you were waaaay too cool to know who i was." barf. yak. sweat. all i could do was shake my head, say i know, i am sorry, i've changed. yeah. so awkward! he laughed. we laughed. it was no big deal but still. i HATE being in that situaion.....)
it's been years since i've experienced the "east coast spring". i had forgotten how cold that it can get and i DID NOT pack warm enough. i was sure that i was going to be experiencing rain while racing so when the sun came out just as, i mean JUST AS, we were lining up, i was ecstatic!!! it ended up being gorgeous weather. just cold enough to not overheat yet warm enough to not have frozen fingers....

LOOK who was right beside me!?! it was very cool to meet him...

the starting line...
to the finish line.

enjoying the VIP treatment of a massage therapist. my forearms were total JELLO. i even had to ice them which i have never had to do before. exhausted but feeling mentally awesome, knowing that i had just given it MY ALL and that i had NOTHING LEFT! a feeling that is impossible to describe in words....
YEAH!!! they found me!!!

so we figured that while we were "downtown", we should experience the historic aspect of boston but first off to lunch at "cheers"...lol
i can honestly tell you that i have been to EVERY historic building in the continent. that was what we did during our summers. went to every site, fort, castle, field, river, etc. that was possible. i am not lying. my parents LOVED taking us to those things. it was great as a child buuuut as a parent? not so much anymore. i know. horrible but in my mind comes the thinking that "you've seen one ~~~~~~~, you've seen them all." i know. bah humbug to me. i sound like i was all grouchy about it but i wasn't. we had fun and we DID it but NOW WE KNOW!?!
this was scene reminded me of the movie "up". i am serious. this poor little building in the middle of the 21st century...

the next morning we decided to take a little overnight road trip up to freeport, maine before our flight home the next day...

homeward bound....

yes. we were under the water. ugh....
such a great experience. such a great trip. such great memories that were made. would i do it again? yes. YES i would! but don't you worry!? i've got some big plans in the future...BIG plans! but for now? i can check this OFF my list! ;)
xoxo
