Our Own Little Family "Secret"...

from the beginning of time, whenever i think about my kindra, a horse, her white blankie, and a thumb are part of the thought. as an infant, she was a thumb sucker. i tried to force a binkie but she preferred her thumb and her white blankie to fall asleep with. those 2 things have always brought her comfort and security. i don't know if it's because she needed some extra comfort when she was a preemie in the hospital. who knows?! and if we're being honest, i still sleep with my "silky" pillow case that i've had for 30 yrs so how can i judge?! i also, as a child, had a blue blankie and i have no idea why i was attached to it for so long until it was "put" away in a box.

for fun, i had to pull my blankie out and show kindra how the "blankie cycle" had continued and how it had been passed on from mother to daughter...lol.
anyway, you can see in the picture above, what her white blankie once looked like and then you can look below to see what it has become....
so the white blankie thing i can deal with but the thumb sucking thing, i can't. i mean it's only when she is feeling nervous or when she is falling asleep but it is the worst habit, not to mention that it's giving her the "buck teeth look". that will only open up a new can of worms as she grows older.

i have tried EVERYTHING to break this habit. EVERYTHING and EVERY possible way to connive a change but it hasn't worked. and quite frankly, i'm so sick of the fight that i could scream (and i have!). after her knee casts, i knew what i had to do.
so yes. i told our doctor that this was the last straw and that it was time for a cast to be placed over her thumb. and with that, it happened. it's been on about 10 days so we'll see if it works but please pray for us that it does.

funny story. so the doctor said "you need to come up with a really cool story about why you have this cast."

i could see her brain working, planning, scheming up the perfect story.

on our way home she asked me if she could really lie to people about her cast.

"sure" i said. "i doubt that you want people to know that it's suppose to be a thumb cast so i'll be ok with our little family secret. not a lie but a secret."

that afternoon, when asked by some neighbor kids why she had to have the cast, i heard her "secret".

"well, i was up with my mom to "courage reins" riding horses and i got bucked off and broke my wrist." but it was really fun and it didn't even hurt at all!"

yep.
classic.
