Amazement...

i had an awesome experience today. as we came down the mountain, it began to snow like crazy...CRAAAZY! it had been a perfect ski day so i was already excited with how great the fresh powder was. it was then that i had the most surreal "nature'esque" experience. i had just paused to clean my goggles and right before i began to push off to head down the mountain, the LOUDEST, LOUDEST clap of thunder sounded. i have NEVER heard something that loud and wondrous! there are not words that can truly describe what i felt, how beautiful and awesome that it was. i will never forget what that moment and experience felt like!

My Own Kind of "Super Saturdays"

Did I mention that I love being active and constantly busy?!? The more that I've got going on, the better and happier that I am. I've ALWAYS been like that! Especially when it's for a GREAT cause... My friend Sara invited a bunch of us to walk with her in the M.S. Walk of Utah up at The Gateway. It was awesome to see so many people come out and participate. Sara's mom has M.S., Trevor's mom has M.S., and one of my best friends back in Toronto has M.S. so it's something that I know affects so many people!

I met one of Sara's neighbors who has also been through alot! We "swapped" stories, chatted the whole walk, and I gained some new ideas about who and how people are affected by different tragedies.
I left the walk and headed straight up to Snowbird for an afternoon of skiing. I was so excited that it was not snowing since I had heard that it was going to....
....Uh. Not so much but I had the BEST EVER EXPERIENCE that I can not even truly describe in words. This has only happened once to me before while skiing in Quebec when I was 12 but it was NOTHING like this day.
As I was skiing it began to snow...ALOT! Then they shut down the lift because they had seen lightning so I was waiting it out on the mountain since they give it like a 20 minute window. As I was sitting there in the snow, I saw the lightning and heard the thunder...like 20 feet away or at least that is what it felt like! It gave me the chills and I can not even describe how AWESOME it was! I love thunder so to be at the top of the mountain and to hear it was the BEST ever! Plus I skied by myself which made it even better! The freedom of knowing that I can do it alone puts me on a high that only I can understand...
(Don't worry. I pulled out my cracked and waterproof camera, stuck it in my pocket so that I could get some pictures while in action, and had some random take a picture!)
Last weekend was the Salt Lake City Marathon so we woke up at 4:30 and headed up to the Olympic bridge which was the starting line. I am so lucky that Trevor and my kids are so supportive of my racing. They get so excited to see me and I love knowing that they are there, supporting me 100%! "You're going to win Mom. I know it!" is what Carter was saying the whole ride up. So funny!

I only did the Half Marathon this year because my shoulder has been bothering me. I didn't want to push it and hurt it any further since I pretty much need my shoulder to get around...hehehe! :)
It is so GREAT to hear your name being yelled as you cross the finish line! Thanks to those who could make it up and support me! It was so fun to also have all of my family there to see me...except for Lyssa :(
I finished 1st so that just added to the excitement! As competitive as I am, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't care about winning, but really really it is more about just DOING it, being an EXAMPLE, making MEMORIES, creating AWARENESS, and SUPPORTING the program and the team...PROMISE!!!
I am so excited for the true Summer to come because that just means more things that we will able to do and be involved in. We love being out, out, out in the sunshine and I love going, going, going!

My "Princess Keek-a-boo"...

I thought that this year would be the first year that we would not have to make a trip to the hospital. Nope. It got us once again.
Because Kindra was a 1 lb 12 oz preemie, she will have to endure "chronic lung disease" for the rest of her life. Every year she gets "RSV like" symptoms which scares me to death because she gets even more bone skinny and "fragile" (she likes to emphasize that one when she gets pummeled by her brother! She tearfully sobs..."I am fragile, remember? Mom told you that I am FRAGILE!") I am a pro with the home breathing treatments and she is a pro at taking full advantage of the attention that she is given! Dramatic? Oh you had better believe it!
She will cough, gag, and then throw up. I will skip the coughing but will also gag and then throw up! I'm so serious! We had to go over to the hospital so that they could get an X Ray of her lungs to make sure that they were clear. With this, it's always better to cover all of our bases.
"Mom. Take a picture of my "Horse with batteries" and my Cheetah so that I will always remember how much I love them. Please?"
Her imagination is always on the prowl. Last week she surprised me with some new cups?...
...as well as this! I was watching the kids through the window as they were playing out front. I pushed away at the curtains only to discover this.....All I could do was roll my eyes and shake my head. What?!?

The whole ledge is covered with M-O-M and K-I-N-D-R-A. Yeah. We had a talk about "Paper Kin. PAPER is what we write on!"

Celebrity Benefit Wheelchair Basketball Game...

It wasn't until last year that the idea of playing the sport of Basketball was even an option. My reply whenever told that I should try to play again was "Basketball has been put up on a shelf. I did that in college and have great memories of what it really means to play it. Wheelchair Basketball would never be the same so I'm not going there." I was serious and had it settled in my mind that it was to never be again.

But last year, I decided to go check it out for a family night. We went over and watched the Utah Wheelin Jazz at their practice night and I was blown away. I could not believe how good these guys were and even from low down in a chair. I realized that Wheelchair Basketball was a completely different sport than Basketball and it got me excited about the possibilities.

Life gets crazy though and other things became a priority so learning to play and getting involved with these guys (since of course there is not a Women's team) just never seemed to work out. They practice at night which can be hard getting to since the kids are at home. Needless to say, it just did not happen so when I got invited to play on the Neuroworx team, I was so excited! I had never actually sat and played in a sport chair so I just hoped that I could actually get around since the balance would be so different...and it was!
This was before the game, shooting around, and trying to figure out what my shot would actually be. I have a shot but that was when I could jump...hehehe! And notice my #24 which was my # in college?...hehehe!
Some of the "old school local celebrities"...
Rod Zundel announcing the players...
GAME ON!!! and look how serious I looked while I was on the bench wanting to get back out?!?
Kindra giving her own little half time show :)

The final score and yes we won but really? Not so much! It was a total gimmie!
The night was really fun and I'm so glad that they asked me to participate! It got me excited about getting more involved with going out and practicing every once in a while just to get back out on the floor. I will admit that when they said my name as being one of the starters and called me out on the floor, I had a flashback of what it had been like to play in college. It again was one of "those moments" that allow me to feel so free again from those thoughts of never being able to do certain things. I looked up in the stands and saw those who were there to support me and had to hold back the tears. I'm serious and it was AWESOME!
Again, THANKS so much to those of you who were able to come and support me and their cause. It meant alot and it was a total success!
