Memory Tuesday...What are some of the events that are going on in our county right now?
Do you remember the days of being able to run freely around the neighborhood without having to ever check in? As long as we were in the house before dark, we were OK!
Not so much anymore! There is no way that I would ever let my kids do some of the things that we use to do. It is way too scary of a world now and you never know what could happen. Call me controlling but it makes me feel a lot more secure about my job as an intelligent parent.
Some of the things that are going on in our country right now would be...
*Obama vs McCain for the presidency (and I believe that we are seeing a very momentous event taking place with the first African-American candidate becoming the president of our country. I really think that Obama is going to win and would prefer it to happen that way)
*Gas is $4.10 a gallon right now ... yep $75 every time that I fill up my car!
*The 2008 Olympics are about to take place in China
*The movie "The Dark Knight" cleared the $400 million box office mark in 18 days ... I loved that movie and went with my brother to the midnight showing! hehehe
I thought that this was a great post (thanks Leesa) because it's always good to be able to look back to see what events were going on at a specific time in history. A big eye opener that's for sure!

"You Know?....I Could Make That."
I have very many memories of my Mom the seamstress...both good and bad! She made clothes for me all of the time when I was younger...she made all of my sisters dance/prom/wedding dresses...she made all of the dresses for my wedding (except for mine)...she makes the kids' Halloween costumes every year...she loves, loves, loves to sew and to buy new material all of the time :)I have a cousin who is my age who would always express her envy of my sewn clothes because her mother could not sew and yet I was envious of her store bought clothes! The grass is always greener on the other side :(
Don't get me wrong...I knew how lucky that I should be but I was just so, so, so sick of going shopping with my Mom and hear "You know?...I could make that! Do you know how easy that would be for me to sew?" HATED IT! Notice that my Mom did not sew any of my dresses in High school?!? I was so prideful that I did not want to give her the satisfaction! How stupid was I? As I see the gorgeous dresses that my sisters have...oh how dumb was I? But back then that was the last thing that I'd wanted!!!
I will, still to this day, laugh because I use to give my Mom a hard time that she was obsessed with collecting material just to sit and stare at...not to sew with because she had/has loads of it...and I mean LOADS!
So when I expressed the need to plan a time to take Kindra school shopping...guess what was my Mom's request?!? "Oh, can I make her some outfits?" Finally after 25 years of trying to stop her sewing obsession, I finally said "Sure Mom! I'd love that."Fine...I also saw the $$$$ amounts that I would be saving as we used some of her "collected" material! :)
It took her less than 15 hours to pull down and put together some possible material for us to look at because she was so excited?!?
Whatever floats her boat right??? Thanks Mom...we can hardly wait!!!
"Rush" Sunday---
Side note...we did not get to endure the "electric fence touching" but let me give you a quick description. Across the street is a ranch that has an electric fence surrounding the property. One day we got a little adventurous and decided to test it out. It's a very timid fence (at first) and nothing serious but the more touching it gets, the stronger the current becomes. So one day we had everyone lined up for a "touch" just to see who could/would do it and who could handle the highest voltage. We all had a hand on this fence so it had gotten to be a stronger zap than normal, it passed through all of us, and dropped Jake right to his knees (who was last in line). Such a dumb act but such the hilarious act. It will go down in history as one of the best! Our parents freak whenever we start to get up the courage to go and try it again. Now that we know what to expect, it'll probably never happen but it's always fun to see their reaction! :)
...the kids were hilarious and could not stop bugging the crap out of each other! While 2 were fighting, the other would step in to stand up for whoever was losing and then it would all switch. We were laughing at the thought of throwing in Emma (their cousin who lives in TX) and what her parents would do...let her fight it out or if they would kidnap her away? We've learned just to let them fight it out! hehehe Sometimes that's all they need :)
Now don't think that Jenny did not prep my kids for what they would be in for if they did not behave! She was scared to death that the night would not go well because of the chaos that could possibly occur. I also did some bribing of my own and told the kids that we could go down today for a snow cone if they were on their best (best possible) behaviors :) They were great so today we headed down to our favorite spot on the grass for their much anticipated treat :) "What's his name??? Stewart! Stewart! Stewart!"

A Tear Jerker...
We watched this movie tonight and I thought that it was a good one! Did you know that not only was Reese Witherspoon in this movie, but that she also produced it?!? Not bad...not bad at all...ps James McAvoy is so freakin hot and I could listen to his accent all night long :)
