A Very Merry Un-Birthday To ME!!!

I got the BEST surprise and news last week about my unknown possibly soon to be future mono-skiing career!!! I was given a grant from Wasatch Adaptive Sports which gave me a 2010 Seasons pass to Snowbird Ski Resort as well as some days down at Sundance Ski Resort!!! That has always been my biggest complaint about winters in Utah since my injury...not being able to take full advantage of enjoying the snow but maybe this idea could all change. Who knows?!?
But I do know that I killed it today when I went up for the afternoon! It being only my 3rd time mono-skiing, I skied down the mountain time after time tether free. It was awesome! What made it even better was the fact that it was a great snow day with a hot sunny blue sky. This left me with a raccoon eye sun tan and some chapped lips, something that is common once you can officially call yourself a winter skier. Now that may be jumping the gun a little but if I know myself like I do, I'd have to say that's a sure statement I can claim after this season is thru just like the old KT days of the past! If anything, it's the best workout while I'm in my winter hand-cycling training until my races start back up but still...who knows?!?
And maybe. Just maybe. I can learn to love the snowy Utah winters since I will be able to take advantage of it's great winter sport!

SKI UTAH and THANKS again to Wasatch Adaptive Sports!!!

The Las Vegas Santa Run 2009

Do you remember one of my besties...Katie Thomas aka "Thomas"? Remember her?
When she told me about the newest plan that she wanted us to do together, I was so excited! She had made a personal goal to run the Las Vegas Santa Run 5k and she wanted to get a few of us to run it with her. She knew that I would be in no matter what since she has always supported me with my races but she did throw in a twist for me. Instead of hand cycling the race, she wanted me to do it in my chair so that I could stay beside her, talking to her and keeping her motivated. Done! For sure done plus we got to do it wearing a Santa suit! I could hardly wait for the big weekend....

I will say...will admit that this 5k was a challenge for me. Though they are muscles and motions that I use all day long, I am still stopping, pausing, or slowing down where this was continuous. It was no problem on the flat roads or on the downhills but it was way harder on the upward hills then I thought it would be.

But we did it! Thomas did it I should say and I was so proud of her accomplishing her mini personal goal! Aaaand I will say that I was the only wheelchair participant in the race so I will take that accomplishment home with me.....

Thanks girlies for a great weekend!!!
This is what's playing in my head today......

Happy New Year!!!!

There's nothing better than ringing in the New Year with some good old innocent pot banging!?!

Pot banging was a New Years tradition at the Terry house growing up. I was talking to one of my besties, who now lives in Montreal, Quebec and that was the first thing she asked me...

"Are you teaching your kids about the Terry New Years tradition? That is one of my best New Years memories! Parties at your house and fighting over who got the loudest pot to bang!"

So there you have it. Proof and yes...I'm passing the tradition on!

The Twilight Trickery...

I know that I have always claimed the "Party/Get-Together Planner" title because I have so much fun when I am putting it all together but this event crept right up on me and not in a good way! Back when "Twilight" came out, I was right on the midnight movie ticket purchasing so that we made sure to be right there being the first to see it...but like I said, not this one. By the time I realized it, all of the midnight tickets for "New Moon" were SOLD OUT! I felt horrible! So the decision to wait until the hype calmed down to go see the movie was the choice that we had to make and it was left at that.

Lets just say that when Tara called me with the grand plan that she had discovered while shopping one day at Nordstrom, I was even more excited! Not only had she gotten us all "VIP Passes" to the showing, but she had secured seats to the viewing that would be seen even earlier than the midnight show! The showing was at 9:30 pm which also took away the stress of a late, late night movie. It was PERFECT and the best part was that we did not have to wait the hours in the line, outside in the FREEZING cold like the rest of the fanatics! It was all too perfect!!!
Yes! This guy was hilarious using his megaphone to bark out orders but hahaha...NOT TO US since we parked right there and went right in from my warm car to our warm seats!
We had 6 seats saved and only 3 of us there to save them so we had coats and purses stashed all over the theatre. These young and annoying girls came in thinking they were the cats meow so we had to pull out our bitchy attitudes to move them along from our seats. Then they started complaining that seats were being saved when they had literally gotten there 4 minutes before the show. Come on! What did they expect?!? I so hope that when I was their age, I did not act like that but the sad truth is...I unfortunately KNOW THAT I DID!?!?! oops :(
We missed those who could not make it but we were so glad that Tara's sister, Lindsey, and one of my oldest friends, Lindsey, were able to come and join in the obnoxious and immature fun! We always have a GREAT night of laughter and like it's been said time and time again, you never know what you're gona get when we're around! LOL!!!

Time For Some Contemplation

I've been sick. Just the flu sick but still. The hate sick but my quiet room has allowed me some time to dig deep. Very deep.

It's fast how time flies. Really fast and especially when you are in a relationship, it seems to go that much faster. The excitement. The rush. The planning. The future. And then for me as the day came closer and closer? Reality and culture differences hit and I knew that it would be so hard. But then the second guesses come. And the buts and the what ifs. In fact. It's still the what ifs and the maybes and the and ifs......

It's always been easy for me to tell a friend who's in need that maybe therapy would help them out but in my past whenever I've seen someone, I always feel like questions are asked that almost make something into a problem that isn't one? Make sense? So this past year I decided to take the plunge again and start talking to someone and "barfing" all of my stuff out to someone. There have been so many questions and so many issues that have really confused me this past year. I needed to seek out someone, a third party someone, that I could talk to.

It's helps. So much! And these are not even big issues. Just little issues that are only my business and not close friends or family business. I leave feeling so refreshed and even when we talk about issues that I will never have the full understanding to right now.

It has also reconfirmed my testimony that there is a greater power at hand and has reminded me of an experience that I should know by heart since it was my very own.

"It's not your job to understand why. It's just your job to do"

So there it is. Will I understand why my marriage choice turned out differently than I thought it would? Will I understand why my little family has had some physical and mental challenges? Will I understand why a relationship did not work? Will I know why...why...why...why? NO. Not right now. I can learn things about myself that I can do to help certain situations but there will be things that I will never understand because I don't see the greater picture that is in store for me. I only see the now. So when I think about the things that I want to improve and work on for this new year, I know that I can only try and do the best that I possibly can and that I will, will, will make mistakes but that I will learn from them. The only thing that sucks is that looking back over the past 2 yrs, I have acted in ways that I wish I could take back. Acted in ways out of anger, pain, hurt, vengeance, pride...the list goes on but thank goodness that through my Lord I can ask and receive forgiveness. I can know that he is watching and that he is mindful and that he knows what I am capable of even when I or others don't.

So Yes. I have my own New Years resolutions that I will be working on. I can now look back at situations and though at the time, it was more painful than I can describe, I am so thankful that it worked out the way that it did and that it was for the best. I have so many things to be thankful for and I know that I will succeed...WILL achieve all that I put my heart and mind into. What that is yet I am not sure of but I will be positive and optimistic and know that things work out how they should.

True story. I was laying on my bed thinking about something that was still so confusing to me. 2 minutes later I received a phone call from the last person I expected to receive one from asking me a question about this one topic that I had just been thinking about. It was exactly what I needed to make me stop questioning. To know that things had worked out how it should have, nothing is ever perfect, and that I was so thankful to not be in that situation or to have to even question those issues.

More proof that it ALL works out how it should and yes...LOL...hind sight is 20/20 and I need to remember that!

Anyway. It's late so the bed and the sleep is calling so I will end my rambling but remember. We all have issues. No one and nothing is ever perfect even when we think it is. All we can worry about is our own situation and that the attitude makes all the difference in the world.

I'll end with another one of my personal quotes.

"It's ALL mental!" and boy is it ever!
